Hello, It has been a busy week with lots of assessment and testing. Sam and I are really pleased with the progress all the students have made. The class are back into routines and have been really excited and interested in our Inquiry lessons this week. We started on Tuesday with writing up our Floating and Sinking experiment. Students had to find objects that they thought would sink or float and predict what would happen and reasons for it. They also had to observe what happened and describe it. The second group of photos are students learning about millimeters, centimeters and meters. They had to estimate the length of classroom items and then measure them. We have swimming on Monday at 11.45am and on Thursday we start our cricket skill sessions at 9am. Please ensure your child brings a wide brimmed hat to school. Dear Families, Welcome back, it is great to see the children’s smiles and excitement to be back at school and in our classroom. We have loved hearing all the stories and adventures they have been experiencing over the summer holidays. Ruma Kakariki is fortunate to be working in part of D Block. We have a total of 50 students, 4 teacher aides (coming in at different times) and 2 teachers. We are Samantha Harrison and Julie Boyd, known to the students as Mrs H and Julie. A little bit about Sam ... I am married to Liz and we have two daughters, Maddy and Esther, both in Year 12 at Aotea College. We live in Ascot with Hugo the puppy, two turtles – Boris and Stephanie and a fish!. Talofa lava, This week we have been celebrating Samoan Language Week and today we celebrated Samoan Independence Day. The students have been involved in different activities centered around Samoan language, geography and climate. They have also been writing about themselves and their own culture and family traditions. Swimming is going well and the instructors report that the students swimming skills are improving. Today we farewelled Hana Bridge who is moving to Trentham and welcomed a new student Jasmeena. School is closed tomorrow and on Monday. We look forward to seeing students back on Tuesday rested and refreshed.
